Our Kid-Friendly Brooklyn City Guide
We’re excited to introduce a new segment to Ollie + Squish where we share kid-friendly guides for some of our favorites cities—and we’re starting with our own hometown of Brooklyn!
New York might not be the first place that comes to mind when searching for kid-friendly activities, but there are plenty of opportunities for exploration and fun. Whether you’re local to the area or considering a long weekend trip with little ones in tow, here are a few of our favorite go-to’s in BK.
Pig Beach in Gowanus
This is a great place to grab a bite with its spacious picnic tables and great BBQ and drinks. Pig Beach offers a huge outdoor space with bean bag games for the kids. It’s definitely one of the few places in the city that you don’t have to worry about your kid being too loud—our favorite kind of place with two little ones!
Flying Squirrel in Greenpoint
Flying Squirrel is a colorful boutique with unique toys & children's apparel, including secondhand & local products. Technically a consignment shop—but they also have new toys and clothes available too.
Extra bonus: it’s right next door to a neat record shop called Academy Records.

Nitehawk Cinema Williamsburg
Via Your Neighborhood
Nitehawk is a dine-in movie theatre that offers great options for kids. Being a new parent shouldn’t cinema-going, so they created Hawks with Babies happens every Tuesday afternoon where parents can bring their baby to the movie. This is catered to parents with babies one year or younger, or you can check out their Lil Hawk option, which are screenings specifically geared for children of all ages.
Via Arch Daily
Stories is a bookshop and storytelling lab in Brooklyn, it’s an adorable space and offers lots of events and storytimes after school, on the weekends, and during the summer. Read more about it here.
Brooklyn Farmacy and Soda Fountain
This is the cutest retro style ice cream shoppe offering those countertop classics. It’s housed in a 1920s apothecary store and has a unique history. Find them on Instagram @brooklynfarmacy or their website here.
Good Day Play Cafe

Good Day Play Cafe is a fun play place in Park Slope where kids can run wild with their friends or siblings while moms and dads can grab a coffee. Their enclosed play area includes a climbing wall, ball pit, lego station, mini jungle gym and more! You can also host private parties here, too!
